I’m revisiting recordings from the 1980s of the Russian avant jazz-performance art group, the Ganelin Trio. I admire their energy and stop-on-a-dime precision, within a swirl of chaos. On the other end of the density spectrum I’m reacquainting myself with Morton Feldman’s work. I like its pure transparency.
I’ve actually been listening to Blue October (I’ll fb you the secret song it’s poetry), good ole Joni Mitchell (something about Cactus Tree in early august), Eddie Vedder’s ukulele album, and of course, my fav of 4 years now–Ali Farka Toure and Ry Cooder’s album “talking timbuktu”–a must for poets and writers. They’re a Malian blues band, sadly Ali passed. 😦 phenomenal stuff
