This message somehow squeezed through my spam filters today, and I’m kind of glad it did:

Words with music

Many years ago I picked up a vinyl LP called “Poetry Readings in the Cellar” with Kenneth Rexroth and Lawrence Ferlinghetti (since re-released on CD). The sets were recorded in San Francisco in 1958. In one case the band provided musical accompaniment as the poet read; in the other, the band and the poet took turns in a kind of call-and-response.

This week’s WordSalad will explore how contemporary poets use music in their work. We’ll hear tracks from:
Robert Creeley and Steve Swallow, So There
Lisa Jarnot, Poems from Ring of Fire and Black Dog Songs
Tom Raworth & Peter Brotzman, No Hard Feelings: For Steve Lacy
Lisa Gill & Kurt Heyl, Mortar & Pestle
Stephen Ausherman + Hideki Kanno, The Bernheim Sessions

These CDs work well as a set. Each poet uses music in very different ways.
